Essential Membrane Protection

Sodium Metabisulphite (SMBS / Na2S2O5)

Protect your RO system from oxidative damage with our Industrial Grade Sodium Metabisulphite. Commonly known as SMBS, it is the industry-standard reducing agent fordechlorination, ensuring that free chlorine does not reach and permanently damage your thin-film composite membranes.

Sodium Metabisulphite Powder for RO Dechlorination

Reliable Chlorine Neutralization

Chlorine is vital for pre-treatment disinfection but catastrophic for RO membranes. Our High-Purity SMBS acts as a rapid reducing agent, converting harmful free chlorine into harmless chloride ions. This chemical barrier is critical for plants using municipal water or pre-chlorinated borewell water to maintain membrane integrity.

  • Instantaneous Dechlorination of Feed Water
  • Prevents Oxidative Pitting of TFC Membranes
  • Acts as an Oxygen Scavenger for Boiler Feed
  • Effective Preservation Agent for Membrane Storage
  • High Solubility for Concentrated Dosing Solutions
  • Compliant with Food and Pharma Industry Standards

Superior Dechlorination for RO Membrane Safety

Ensure zero chlorine breakthrough and protect your investment. Our SMBS powder provides high-activity reduction for industrial water treatment in Baddi.

Tara Enterprises is a leading provider of Sodium Metabisulphite in Baddi, catering to the strict dechlorination requirements of the pharmaceutical and beverage manufacturing sectors. Thin-film composite (TFC) membranes can only tolerate a very low cumulative exposure to chlorine before losing their salt rejection capabilities—our SMBS ensures that exposure is zero.

For plants using borewell water with high dissolved oxygen, our Sodium Metabisulphite serves as a cost-effective oxygen scavenger, preventing the corrosion of downstream high-pressure pumps and stainless steel piping.

Rapid Reaction

Instantly reacts with hypochlorite to form harmless chlorides and sulfates.

Storage Safety

Acts as a bacteriostatic agent to preserve RO membranes during long periods of non-use.

Easy Preparation

Highly soluble crystalline powder designed for automatic dosing systems.

Oxidant Neutralizer

Removes residual peroxide and ozone post-sanitization in pharma water lines.

Whether you are operating a 2000 LPH Commercial Plant or a Large Industrial Utility, we provide the technical dosing calculations and reliable chemical supply needed to keep your ORP levels perfectly managed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is SMBS used in RO plants?

RO membranes (TFC) are made of polyamide, which is easily oxidized and destroyed by chlorine. SMBS neutralizes chlorine before it reaches the membrane, ensuring its longevity.

How much SMBS do I need to dose?

Stoichiometrically, it takes roughly 1.34 mg of SMBS to neutralize 1 mg of free chlorine. In practice, a dose of 2-3 mg per 1 mg of chlorine is used to ensure a safety margin.

How often should I prepare a fresh SMBS solution?

SMBS solution reacts with oxygen in the air and loses strength over time. We recommend preparing a fresh solution every 3-5 days for maximum efficacy.

Can I use SMBS for long-term membrane storage?

Yes. A 1% solution of SMBS is the standard preservation liquid used to prevent biological growth in RO membranes during storage or long periods of system shutdown.
